Wilmont Provise: failed law to ban slavery in west.
Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, etc= free. Texas, Florida, Arkansas, etc= slave. California-??, utah, oregon, and new mexico want to be free, but that would make numbers uneven.
Calhoun: pro-slavery, dying of TB
Taylor: President, in the middle, dead.
Fillmore: hand me down president, does the Compromise of 1850

FSA= fugitive slave law. $1000 fine and jail if you do not turn slaves in. judges got $10 for each arrest and $5 for each freedom.
